Methods to repair outdoor furniture

Patio furniture is arguably the most common kind of outdoor furniture used across the world; thanks to its durability, light-weightlessness, design, and affordability. However, there will come a time when your outdoor furniture will start giving you troubles; if that time has arrived, here is a quick guide to outdoor furniture repairs.

Broken patio chairs

One of the most common forms of damage outdoor chairs suffer is separated seats. In adverse cases, these seats separate entirely from the frame, making the chair unusable. Sitting on such chairs will probably get you a quick ride to the floor.

These problems usually start with a small part of the seat starting to separate from the frame. Since the material is thick and the insert space is small, you cannot push the seat, back in the frame.

How to repair

Here is a step by step guide to restoring your outdoor patio chairs.
  1. Lay the chair on the ground, and look for the bolt that holds the seat in the place. You will find two bolts, one towards the front and other towards the rear of the chair.
  2. Use a socket wrench to remove the two. Make sure you keep the bolts aside in a safe place; do not misplace them.
  3. You will find a spline (cord) inside the sides of the mesh seat. This spline is placed inside the track and keeps the chair seat in place.
  4. Once you remove the bolts, you can easily remove the seat from the base frame.
  5. Now, remove the cord and replace it with a new one.
Here is how you replace a patio chair spline.
This time, make sure you pick a larger seat cord than the older one. You can get a vinyl patio spline. Now, use the old chord to get an accurate estimate of the chord length. Cut the spline into the required size, and insert it into the side cavity of the seat.

Now, put the mesh seat back into the track the same way you removed it. After lining up the seat, fit it in the chair frame and fix it with the bolts you previously removed. That's it -- enjoy your repaired chair.
